Nyay Bhushan, Hollywood Reporter, 02 Apr 2008
UTV Motion Pictures released the Bollywood action caper "Race" day-and-date in Pakistan on Friday, making it the just the second Indian film to have a same-day release in that country.

In addition, UTVMP will distribute critically acclaimed kids drama "Taare Zameen Par" (Stars on Earth) in Pakistan later this week following its censorship approval.

"Taare" is the directorial debut of actor Aamir Khan, who also stars in the film as a teacher who nurtures a young boy suffering from dyslexia.

"Race" is handled in Pakistan by Karachi-based Eveready Pictures, which released 15 prints in nine cities, while "Taare" will be released by Geo TV, which also plans a 15-print release.

"With these new films, UTV has released three Indian films in Pakistan and we are glad that the Pakistan authorities have opened their cinemas to our films. Pakistan is slated to become an important overseas market for our cinema, with an audience that mirrors the sensibilities of our domestic audience," UTMP director Siddharth Roy Kapur said.

"Race," directed by duo Abbas-Mastan, stars top Bollywood actors Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna along with actresses Katrina Kaif and Bipasha Basu. Pakistani pop singer Atif Aslam performed one song for the musical, which opened on 1,600 screens in 26 countries over the weekend.
